reply to this thread and I will give you a homework assignment. your task will be to use the vast research resources of the internet to find the answer to a question I will give you. you must then return to this thread and post a short essay on the subject (up to 500 words). you must use your own words (no cutting and pasting please) and limit the use of quotes to no more than 2 sentences.

finally, upon reading your reports, I will grade them. the criteria for grading will be: accuracy of information; clarity of explanation; grammar/spelling/punctuation.

grades will be in the form of a number from 0 to 100, with 100 being a perfect score.

bonus points: the assignment does not require that you include a personal opinion on the subject. but bonus points may be awarded for insightful comments or opinions.

each student will receive his/her own topic for research. there will be no swapping of topics allowed.

and finally, as always, this is only an exhibition, not a competition. so please, NO WAGERING.
