To answer your question, it depends. If you look at this photo, the only thing I've done is cropped it and added a sig. Now, if you look at where the sun has set and imagine me zooming in from the camera's maximum wide angle of 35mm to it's maximum telephoto of 280mm, you'll see nothing but the brilliant red's of the area where the sun has just set. Depending on how dark the photo is, I have lightned them at time to show a bit more detail and if I'm not using a tripod and the photo doesn't come out as sharp as I have wished, I may use some unsharp masking on it. Rarely do I saturate the colors, because they really don't need it. Some people think the best sunsets in the world are in Key West (from a sunset party atmosphere, they may be right), but those same folks that say that have never witnessed a sunset from 130 miles due north in the Fort Myers / Sanibel area.
