I thought we could use a nice story. It's sad about his mom, but what a great effort in tribute...probably not a huge thread starter, but a touching story.

By the way, Mother's Day is May 11--do something sweet for her

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Jason Schmidt said a silent prayer before he pitched, asking for a victory in his mother's honor -- though even being on the mound triggered some guilty feelings because he wasn't back home with his family.

Schmidt pitched a three-hitter and struck out 12 only five days after burying his mother, leading the San Francisco Giants over the Chicago Cubs 5-0 Wednesday night.
