The last time I was in San Diego was about 10 years ago so things might be a little different.
I thought Point Loma was interesting, with a nice view of the ocean and the harbor. There were some fairly easy hiking trails there.
La Jolla is also nice.
Given a choice a few years back, I would have moved to San Diego as it's one of my favorite places in the country.
