#5 There are benefits from both free weights and machines. For beginners I'd suggest machines, since getting the form for exercises down, is extremely important. If you get the form wrong, you can hurt yourself, or just be wasting your time. Machines also have many more safety measures. However, with free weights you have more types of motions you can do. Plus with free weights you can "smoke" your muscles easier.
