Ditto on the safety courses, the ones I took were actually a lot of fun. Some of the guys take them almost every year to brush up, and it cracks me up to see these big Harley dudes on Honda 250 nighthawks, but seriously it increases the most important mental knowledge of riding. Anyway, about the bike, I've never riden one myself (although I've thrown a leg over a couple) but the Suzuki SV 650 might be what you're looking for. It's stupidly cheap for what you get and consistantly gets rave reviews from critics. You should at least check it out. In the same vein, some people really dig the Ducati Monster series. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted. It's always nice to talk bikes when it's so shitty outside!
