It all sounds like good advice so far.
What about a couple pictures with a digital camera to atest to the condition of the furniture and the like prior to the move? I don't have any experience with real movers, it's always just buddies helping me move. But I reckon having a dated picture of the goods might prevent being hurt too bad in the end.
