It is certainly possible to drink too much water, the condition is called hyponatremia.

It mainly occurs in long distance runners who sweat out a lot of their electrolytes and don't replace them because they drink water.

I don't think that many people are going to get it by drinking too much water while living a typical lifestyle. You'd probably lose the desire to drink water before hyponatremia sets in. But you probably don't get much benefit from drinking water all day long just for the sake of drinking it.
