I don't understand the pro and con reactions to anime and manga.
Anime is a medium, not a genre! Saying that you don't like anime is like saying you don't like movies. The only thing that all anime have in common (and the only thing that might differentiate it with what you currently watch, if anything) is that they're animated and they're made by the Japanese. If you don't like animation or if you don't like the Japanese, that's one thing, but that has little to do with anime.
It's also interesting to note that manga constitutes almost 40% of the Japanese print industry, so they take that stuff pretty seriously....
