regardless who wins... it should make for a great super bowl. Carolina and New England played pretty similar today. Both had interceptions up the ass, strong D, and just overall domination on the other team. I'll be rooting for NE in Houston, but I think Carolina has the upper hand. Carolina played on the road today and totally dominated the Eagles, while NE played in their snowy gillette stadium. I guess Carolina is seen as the underdog in this matchup which should take some pressure off of their back.
K, let's match them up.
Running: Carolina has the edge here, DeShaun Foster or Davis can both get the job done, Faulk and Smith are too reliant on blocking to break a decent run.
Passing: I'd say it's almost even, but New England takes the category because their short passing game more than compensates for the lack of a decent running game. Delhomme is is a smart QB and can hit up Steve Smith for huge gains, though.
Defense: Normally, I'd go with NE here, Ty Law is a pretty impressive player, but Ricky Manning Jr. has proven himself today and last week, regardless, Carolina is better here.
O-Line/D-Line: The better offensive line belongs to Carolina, Delhomme is getting a decent amount of time in the pocket, but NE's line isn't that far behind. D-Line, what can i say? Tedy Bruschi, he was injured today but given two weeks, it appears he'll be fine.
Special Teams: The Panthers have one of the best punters in Sauerbraun(sp?) and a good kicker in Kasay, I'd say they have better special teams. Adam V. is a great kicker too, but he looked a little off target today from 20-30 yd attempts, in Houston with clear conditions, he'll most probably be more accurate.
Like I said, I'll be rooting for the Patriots, but I seriously think Carolina has a little bit more heart, and will pull off a win.
