Also, don't you have to heat the water to a boiling point to make coffee? Perhaps the woman had a fresh cup. The boiling point of water is 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Still even if the pot wasn't fresh more than likely it was kept on a warmer to keep the contents hot. I'd think most people would know better than to put a cup of something that hot in their lap because something like this could happen.
Most people I know buy coffee because it's hot and they blow on the contents to cool it off before they drink it.
