Thanks Virtualdub worked well.
The other thing I need to know is whether it is best to edit (ie removing comercials etc.) then convert or convert then edit?
I was able to use Virtualdub to edit the mpeg2 and then convert it to avi. I do not see an option however to save the edited version over the original mpeg in case I want to burn one to DVD. Any recommended programs?
