I've been doing it for a couple of years now. Here's a few tips I would suggest:

1. Of course, the shorter your hair the easier it is to shave. I usually shave 2 or 3 times a week. And using a clean/sharp razor is key. I usually change blades after 3 or 4 shaves.

2. Like shaving your face, a post shower shave works best. I exfoliate with a loofah prior to shaving & the water softens the hair. But do not dry your head prior to shaving. Leave it wet. Also wet your razor before shaving.

3. Find the right type of shaving cream/oil/gel that works for you. Personally, I use a shaving gel (Nivea Shaving Gel w/moisturizer).

4. When applying shave cream/gel/oil massage it into the scalp. This is where a gel with moisturizer helps.

5. Shave. I use a simple Gillete Sensor razor and it works fine for me. Also, I try not to go over the same part of my head with the razor more than twice, otherwise I get razor burn.

6. When I'm done I rinse with cool water and lotion.

Another thing I do, is fill the sink with warm water prior to shaving and submerge the can of shave gel in the water while I shower, then when I go to dispense the gel it is warm.

I've found that it doesn't really matter if I shave with the grain or against it, however it might be different for you. You just ahve to experiment to find out.

Hope this helps.
