If you havent used Mozilla/Netscape in a while, you really should give it another shot, especially Firebird (the thinned down browser version). It works better, looks better, and and after having used it for almost a year, Ill never go back to IE.
As for iframes, they generally shouldnt be included in webpages anyways--standards incompliant, and damn annoying to be honest. I dont know about image placeholders, but I havent seen pages render differently in Mozilla as opposed to IE.
