It's not necessarily that going out to restaurants is bad, it's that they give you such huge servings that if you were instilled as a child to always finish your plate, you end up eating 2,000+ calories.
Go out, order what you want. Just don't finish the meal, and exercise portion control. You'd be surprised at the results.
