I live on a hill, it cuts down on the Jehovas Witnesses. I had two when I was about 8, and my mom politely told them we weren't interested in "Bible lessons." People don't try to convert me, when they ask about my religious views, I tell them that I believe in God, and that being a good person is more important than adhering to a religion, and that no matter what they believe, I'm ok with whatever people want to believe as long as it motivates them to be good people and they give me the same respect and courtesy that I give them.
This tactic has never failed to ward off a conversion attempt, although I do admit that I try to avoid eye contact with anyone carrying a copy of The Watchtower.
