You would be correct - it wasn't even very good in 1975.
About the best you could hope for now would be to mix it with some oil for a decent salad dressing.
In order for most wines to be able to age well, they must have tannins in them, which <i>mostly</i> come from the seeds and skins of the grape (and give the wine its red color). Therefore, as a general rule, red wines age better than whites (which are made without the skins - that's why they're colorless)
