IMHO its the giving thats really important, not the receiving... I personally don't care what I get - it is the gesture itself that makes me happy, even if the object itself is not what I wanted. Seeing the smile on other peoples faces when they open a gift from me is worth a million times more than whats inside the present for me.
Your sister could have ignored you, and not given you anything at all. The fact that she took the time to get you a present shows that you mean something to her. She enjoyed picking that gift for you, and giving it - the least you could do is not punish her for it.
