I experienced some of this today. I had a super stressful time at work this morning, came home for an unexpected lunch break, just to de-stress. When I got around my sis' kids and started talking to them things just got easier to deal with. I started calming down. I was able to get back to work and be happy. Bonding with my sister, bonding with her kids. Made for a great day the rest of the day at work.
I experienced a similar anti-stress technique when I was dealing with some misurable depression in high school. I started helping out in a second-grade classroom a couple of days every week and things just got better. A zillion little hugs just make an impact.
