yodapaul is right, XP uses a bunch of useless graphics that can make computers run way slower than they should. Notice how the older Windows look is the gray bars and all? Well, XP can look like that as well, and it speeds up your system. Go into the Control Panel and go to "Performance and Maintenance" or "System => Advanced" depending on which way you have your folders set up. After that, choose "Adjust Visual Effects" or "Performance Options." I usually check "Adjust for best performance," but I do leave the "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" and "Show windows contents while dragging" boxes checked. If the rest is unchecked, I guarantee your system will run faster. It's proven.
