as lets say a Ford Excursion, Chevy Suburban, etc. compared to those monster SUVs, the H1 is mediocre at best in HP, and not too much more powerful in torque

Well... The old H1s make 195hp at 3400 rpm. Not too bad, but not great. Its torque is where it shines. at 1800 RPM it makes 430 ft/lbs of torque. Thats what its all about. Drop that sucker into a low gear and youll pull a mountain without pressing the gas peddle. 430 is a significantl amount of torque and lets not even go into how much more capable and offroad machine it is. The new model gets an extra 10hp AND 10 ft/lbs torque too.
As for other models....i know fords huge 6.8 makes 425 lb/ft of torque...but not until 3500 rpm. With the hummer its not only about the amount, but when it makes it.
