Sounds like one of your ram sticks is bad or they don't like each other........ My old AMD 1.3 would run flawlessly except for games..... I had one 256 and later bought another 256, then the problems started..... It drove me nuts until I just said screw it and bought two new 256's. High end games would still crash on occasion but for the most part things ran smoothly.
