I wouldn't say the author's a good writer. Mediocre at best.

I took the gun shot to be inspired by the Washington D.C. sniper shootings. If this is the case, then I'd go so far as to call this story exploitive.

I understand why so many people are touched by it. The theme of taking for granted the things or people you love the most is universal.

But in the end this is just manipulative schmaltz, right down to the corny music (which my pop-up blocker thankfully blocked).
