He loved her before he had her, treated her like shit and took her for granted when he did have her, and was all sad and remorseful when she was gone.
Just another abusive relationship. Maybe she'd still be alive if she had left him when things started getting sour.
I've seen lots of relationships like this too and still can't understand why girls stay with the assholes they're dating who treat them like dirt.
