One of the biggest improvements in the 2.6.0 kernel is the "feel" of the system. After you get it installed (beware, you will need a new modules package "init-tools" or you will run into modules problems like some other people above), you will see what I mean. They really did a lot of focusing on making things more responsive, and payed attention to the "drag the window around a lot" test, to see how it all seemed. Overall it's a large step forward for making linux "feel" faster than 2.4 releases, which had some problems with feeling like molasses when enough was going on.
