Because something could have been done, it does not mean that it was done. Conversely, the proof that something was impossible to prevent was that it happened does not hold water. It's a logical fallacy.
I don't blame you for wishing this would go away. Personally, I wish Clinton had had the cojones to say "Yeah, she blew me. Get over it," but flubbing national security on a scale that allows thousands to die is a so much more effective and justified club to beat a politician with that a blowjob or even perjury. I mean, we all know politicians are dishonest, but we tend to get bent out of joint when they start letting their constituents get dead.
So whether or not this gets blown out of proportion doesn't depend on what actually hapens, but where you look at it from. Now honestly, had this come up on Clinton, don't you think we really would have seen President Gore on the job? Won't happen to Bush, not with a Republican congress, but realize that this is roughly the same medicine that was served to the resident's predecessor, for roughly the same reasons.
