Yep, you're right...
But fixing these problems will make you understand how the whole thing works. The learning experience can be painful, be I think it's worth it...

And anyway, within a short period of time the kernel will be available in an RPM package, so the fearful users can issue an "apt-get install kernel#2.6.0"...
