Minnesota:1880-1910--our forests were cut dow to build the midwest cities, the great-plains cities etc.
1890-1990--the steel companies dug up what was the forest floor end extracted the iron for WWI, WWII, the railroads,the shipping industry, the cars etc.
Minneapolis was (for many years) the city that fed the US with floor from its big mills (General Mills and Pillsbury)
But mostly we are known for Jesse Ventura
