From what I've read and heard from others, Orgasms can serve to help alleviate the pain of cramps. Whether it is mental or physical I am not sure, but giving my GF orgasms when she's really crampy does seem to at least get her mind off of things a bit. Perhaps someone who is more informed or experienced on the matter could provide a better explanation as to why it happens.
