I would add my rules, devised in the days when I was still fighting in tournaments:
1. The other guy always knows what move you're about to make.
2. The other guy can take the hit you're about to deliver.
3. The other guy hits harder than you do.
4. The other guy is faster, smarter and stronger than you are.
5. Murphy was an optimist.
