I was reading some history books suggesting that had we followed Patton's lead, we could have ended the War in Europe in '44. The plan: Blitzkrieg the germans. I don't have my facts straight right now (I wrote the paper a couple years ago), but we had a blitzkrieg-style offense going up through Rouen/Paris, and Eisenhower threw the breaks, and gave the Germans a chance to regroup for the 'Battle of the Bulge'.
