* This staircase of ancient stone is worn smooth
through use in ages long forgotten.
Dust lies upon the floor and dry cobwebs choke its narrow passage.
They go down into the darkness at a steep angle
for maybe a distance of 30 feet as you make your way through the webs.
You come to a landing 10 feet square,
and the way makes a sharp turn left,
into another set of stairs downwards again on a steep angle.
There is not darkness at the end of the way approximate 40 or so feet ahead of you below.
Through the thick mass of webs you see flickers light & shadow. *
