I'd suggest not going for revenge, or looking for him to beat up again. Isn't going to solve a damned thing, and can only escalate the problem.
Definitely report it to the police and file a statement though. They probably can't do anything right now, but having your complaint on file can only help if your "friend" decides that he isn't done yet.
