From what I see girls may cheat just as much, but guys do more serious things when they do.
I think it gets the most rampant in long distance relationships. As a girl I don't believe in it because of how self-conscious it can make you when it seems like you are being compared to someone else that they are involved with. It can get to be a terrible game between two people.
