Last year, at age 40, I found out I was adopted! My brother, who's 46, found out at a family wedding, where the alcohol was flowing freely. (He was also adopted. We are NOT related in any way, different birth parents for each of us) Now, my dad died in '79 and mom died in '91. You THINK that someone would have said something in those 11 years between when mom died and we found out.
I've found my birth mom, but, she doesn't want anything to do with me. Not that THAT is gonna stop me!
I sent her a Christmas card with a family (my family) photo and my work number right after Thanksgiving. Haven't heard back from her yet.
As for how I felt, it was pretty funny to start with. My brother has red hair and looks nothing like me. We used to joke with one another growing up that he was the milkman's kid and I was the beer driver's kid. Most amusing, in a sick, twisted sort of way. Oh well, at least I'm not related to any of my crazy aunts!
