At bf's work someone gave a hideous garden gnome to someone else as bday present. After that the gnome was always on the desk of the person who went on vacation (open office, but thank god no cubicles). The office gnome greeted people who came back from a holiday. Their boss had missed this tradition cos he has his a private room with big palm and some other plants in the same pot. He didn't notice the gnome lurking in the bushes for weeks and people who went to his office had hard time keeping normal face while talking to him. Eventually he found it, took it to his secretary's desk and looked really dumbstruck asking if she has any idea why the statue was in his plants.
