I am canadian, and this is a sore matter simply because of its overuse by americans
Allow me to create a metaphor, its regional based, but Californians here will be able to relate.
A canadian saying eh, is as common as a person from NorCal saying hella, but it is more natural, so it comes off as being about a trillion times less annoying.
Its a natural part of speech, just like you have a tendency to say 'huh' in similar situations which eh would be appropriate.
If you dont quite get the metaphor, I'm afraid I have nothing for you.
