But then again, I'm not a female and it's typically females who are those who sometimes like this kind of thing. Certain kinds of females that is.
As War Wagon mentioned above, I don't think it's the violence per se, but the exhibition of strength that is what is deemed attractive. It's natural, after all, for females of any species to be attracted to a stronger, "alpha male" type that can defend her and her young.
So, human conciousness has allowed us to control, if not master, most of our baser "reptilian" urges. But they do surface from time to time...
I recommend the books The Third Chimpanzee by Jared Diamond, The Mammal in the Mirror by David & Ilona Barash (a bit lightweight though) and most especially Human Natures, Genes, Cultures and the Human Prospect by Paul Ehrlich if you want to read more about our animal ancestry and how it affects us.
