Thanks for the great history lesson and the followups. It helps put my place here in perspective.
This is my second incarnation at TFP. I arrived shortly after V4 came online and I honestly don't recall what my first handle was. Both of my memberships were due to the FARK link. My first time in I read the Notices and (silly me) thought to myself, how am I ever going to find porn to post and a place to host it? I assumed the only way to maintain membership was to post on the Titty board! Well I eventually got locked out for lurking. Then I came back, got my head screwed on straight, and have been loving the place ever since.
I tried a membership at another online forum a few years back. It was moderated, but just barely. The whole place was based on survival of the fittest. I hated it. One time I was blasted by a member because I complimented them on a particularly insightful comment. Apparently I had to prove myself before I could 'kiss someone's ass' there. That has not been and never will be an issue here because of the great moderators/admins and all their hard work. (Tips hat to the management)
