I've got to agree with that. A good economy is not an end in itself, it is a means to improving or maintaining our quality of life, and there is a limit to what costs we should endure in its pursuit. What good is a good economy if workers are suffering as a result?
However, that's only applicable to the extent that unions are actually protecting workers' legitimate needs rather than arbitrarily inflating the cost of labor. While redravin's list of tragedies is daunting, I don't think the disappearance of unions,
now, would send us back to those mishaps.
