as good as GPUs are they dont yet do raytracing , radiosity or scanline rendering yet, its unlikey they will since its not really required, its faked in games and stuff, because you don't need realistic, its all NPR stuff.

You could create a high res scene and get the card to render it, but it'd miss a lot of important details, youd have to fake the lighting and shadowing etc.

GPUs are very limited in what they can do, at least the domain they work in, its very specific.
