Nina tried to sleep, but her mind was plagued with images. The dreams presented to her as she slept were muddled and confused, as if she were viewing them through a mirror. She could not tell past from future, although she did pick out fragments that seemed to include herself and her companions in situations that had not yet come to pass.
She awoke with a start after seeing an image of Vanelee calling to her from far away. In her dream, he seemed to be wounded, but she could not see him clearly and, although she ran towards him, the distance between them only increased.
She was somewhat relieved to find him sleeping at her side, but the nightmare haunted her even in waking. She moved closer to the dozing elf, burying her face in his shoulder and pressing her trembling body against the warmth of his side. Scared that he might slip out of her fingers, she clung to Vanelee, weeping silently.
"I love you, Vanelee..." she murmured, knowing he was asleep and would not hear her.
