i have not tried hitting the power button while it's off, but i have run through the cmos clearing procedure with the power unplugged several times - nothing.
at the store, they say they will send the board out for servicing for free, but may take up to 6 weeks. :-(
so you guys think there's hope without replacing the chip? i've cleared it so many times now i'd pretty much given up on that...
i usually leave the power supply plugged in for grounding reasons when i'm in there, but admit there are potential problems there.
seems most people who have similar problems were doing a flash, but i wasn't even to that point yet so maybe there's hope. one interesting thing: the whole reason i was clearing cmos was because the bios update utility would say 'no asus board found' or something like that, even though it showed up correctly in asus probe, etc.
