The thing that doesn't sit well with me about that is the Grandma Death part. I really believe that she could see the same things as Donnie, which means, if these visions were a message from god, that god was sending her these messages. But I don't see how that fits in, why would god give her the same visions? It seems a bit excessive if the only reason is to make sure she is there to get in the way of Frank's car. One could say the real reasons for god giving her these messages lie outside the movie... which would be another thing I don't like about the explanation, I'd like it to be explained by things we see in the final cut of the film.

The idea that seeing these visions come from an 'ability' and not a message makes more sense to me.
