When did this thread turn into a couple thing from a multiples of the opposite sex hanging on one person? There's a difference.
If it's only one person of the opposite sex, it looks like you're a couple.
If it's more than that, then you get the interested and curious looks. The logic behind that is this: s/he can't possibly be dating all of those people.
