I find it interesting that we seem to spend a lot a time talking about how people don't participate, or should participate, or are participating - but I think it's preaching to the choir because the non-particiapters aren't reading the posts they don't reply to.
I agree that being vigilant in any task is one way to achieve a quality product, regardless of what pursuit one is vigilant about, but I wonder where this discussion leads if the vast majority of people that view/reply are some of the 700 or so members who post already.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, short of some algorithm that is agreed upon as a standard everyone must maintain or get booted, it will be hard (if not impossible) to generate quality participation on this board by doing anything other than being a quality participant and hoping others follow the lead. Any kind of cajoling, proselytizing, or even browbeating will do no good, regardless of the evidence (or lack thereof) that you present.
I think that's the sad, true fact - some people care and some don't. I think it's hard, if not impossible to turn the 'not carers' into 'carers' without something that happens spontaneously within them that prompts them into action. And all we can do is demonstrate the desired behavior and hope for results.
