i consider myself fairly "experienced," and i know for a fact that a good dry-humping can get me really, really damned close to mobilizing the small soldiers...
perhaps some of you have forgotten how much more sex -- or any physical interaction -- is than mere physical stimulation. dry-humping, like actual intercourse, has ocular, olfactory, audio, and tactile sensations. and most importantly, it has a(n) emotional/mental amplifier.
vveronica, imagine this guy really liked you (as one can divine by his continued attempts at a second date). for him, it wasn't just a meaningless, one night thing. there is the distinct possibility that he had a jones for you for weeks, finally scored a date, and the immensity of the situation merely caused heightened sensation.
i know for a God-given fact that if the girl i've been crushing on for the past few weeks took me home and proceeded to make-out with me, then crawled into my lap and gave me a "florida-style" (credit to Jim Kata for this great phrase) dry-hump, i'd be finished in seconds. why? because it's more than just gyrating hips; it's the feel of her hair, it's the smell of her skin, it's the mischievous twinkle in her azure eyes...
