This made me laugh! When I first read the original comment about throwing the butt back in the car, I thought about my best friend (a pack a day smoker who LOVES his car and is an amateur boxer and prison guard-aka, he's never without OC spray and a large knife) and myself (pack to pack and half, also LOVE my car-250 pounds, 6'0").
Neither of us are violent, but I think something like this would be enough for me to get out and take care of the matter face to face. I'm not saying I'd return the violence, but I'd have to try hard not to. I'd try to keep it to the "stern talking-to" stage.
I'm not sure he'd remain quite as calm.
This is not an equivalent reaction to someone throwing their butt out the window. This could cause SERIOUS damage to the person or their property, and I would not be at all suprised if it resulted in some serious bodily harm to the person deciding to throw the butt back into the car, or possible legal action.
Just to clarify, I'm not making any sort of threats (I'm the biggest wimp you'll ever meet), I'm just saying, people just need to think before they do something like that. When I was a little younger, I used to do stuff like that (nothing that could cause that much damage), and I almost got my hind side beaten because of it. It's easy to say something online (much like I'm doing right now, ironically
), but in real life, there can be some very unpleasant consequences.
And for anyone that doesn't think a cigarette butt thrown back could do damage, trust me, it can. I had one fly into my car last week and get trapped behind the seat and my back. I don't believe I have to stress how unpleasant that was!
