Apparently you've never had any immediate family members (ie parents, brothers/sisters) working in the steel industry. Easy to get hired, good pay. At least it USED to be like that.
Then Japscrap POS's started taking over the north american car market and Cappucino-sucking tree-hugging hippies started buying them because they were good for the environment and got 2mpg better than their American counterparts. Don't take performance, reliability, price, or morals into account here.
Then the steel industry started going to hell and thousands upon thousands of people lost their jobs. No biggie in normal cities, but small cities where 50% of the workforce works at the plant (See Billy Joel's song "Allentown"), people got FUCKED.
YOU try living a life with a parent that has no job and no dignity and explaining to your kids why they can't have that power wheels car this year for Christmas. Then tell me Japanese cars are so fucking great. Do you think Japan buys their steel from here?
(note, the above can be applied to North American car companies too, not just steel plants)
I'm not saying he spun out because he was in a Honda, i'm just saying people DO have legitimate reasons for hating imports. SO be sick of it all you want. I want to move back to the town where I lived when I was a kid, but oh wait-no jobs there because of the steel plant slowly going to hell!
I will never, ever, EVER pay for a Japanese car. PERIOD. Probably goes for imports in general, but some european cars are kinda neat.
