Personally, I see friends with benefits (FWB) different from a fling with no strings attached (NSA).
The fact that you're friends to begin with means there are strings attached, there is emotion involved. The emotions however are different from the emotions in a serious monogamous relationship. So it's more of a "light strings attached" situation than NSA. The whole best friend, as opposed to just friend, with benefits ideal is what I want in a lifetime partner (don't plan to get married). Under my definition (and experience) of friends with benefits, I could do it and enjoy it.
As for a fling with an acquaintance that's NSA, I would prefer not to, but I have done that also.
